GENSLER SUMMER INTERN PROJECT: THE GREEN
THE GREEN: REDEFINING PUBLIC SPACE Morristown is a lively town in New Jersey, thriving with people who live and work there. It is also a very historic town with a proud legacy. Though Morristown respects its past and is very proud of it, there is a constant push to keep moving forward and grow so it does not get stuck in the past. The Green is the center of town and the main public space for residents and daily commuters alike. It hosts events such as musical festivals and farmer’s markets and is an iconic landmark for the area. Owned by a Board of Trustees but dedicated to the public, the identity of the space has been unchanged. However in a town committed to evolving to embrace the future, it was suggested the Green should do the same. Our team’s proposal of an enhanced Green gives three distinct identities to the space to accommodate everyone using it. A recreational space for those who want an open public space. A lively space to improve the capacity of events and high peak hours. Lastly tranquil spaces for the quiet activities like reading a book and enjoying the fresh air.
